Famous for being the location for major film productions, Durango has transformed into a gateway connecting emerging talent to the world’s fashion capitals. Discover more about Durango Fashion Week—a dynamic platform designed to spotlight and showcase the work of emerging designers. We spoke with Jack Ramos, one of the co-founders, who shared exciting plans for 2025. Here's what to expect.
“Durango Fashion Week was born out of the need to promote local art and design on both national and international stages,” explains Ramos, who co-founded the platform with Grecia Reyes in 2020. Since its inception, the event has hosted 38 designers from various Latin American countries as well as Spain. It also highlights talent from Durango and other Mexican states, including students from the Instituto de Moda de Aragón, Universidad Autónoma de Durango, and Cedim School of Design.
Notably, renowned Spanish designer Agatha Ruiz de la Prada has mentored participants and graced the event, attending the 2024 edition as a special guest. Additionally, Durango Fashion Week has formed a strong alliance with FDLA (Fashion Designers of Latin America). “Thanks to this partnership, several designers have made it to New York Fashion Week,” says Ramos, highlighting talents like Fernanda Barboza, who showcased her work on this prestigious stage through the collaboration.
For the first time in 2024, the event moved to venues outside downtown Durango and featured international influencers like Ravendano. As for 2025, the surprises keep coming. “This year, we’re partnering with international platforms like Washington DC Fashion and Art Week and Aruba Fashion Week,” shares Ramos, emphasizing that these collaborations will open even more doors for participating designers.
Platforms like these empower fresh fashion talent to shine on the global stage, highlighting their creativity and driving innovation within the textile industry.
